Industry Council for the Built Environment

Launched in 2009, the Industry Council for the Built Environment is comprised of leaders who determine and influence the quality of our built world.  Design, planning, construction and engineering practitioners join with those in real estate, finance, policy, and media to ensure we are collectively producing a safe, healthy, and vibrant built environment.  As the only American cultural institution devoted to all of the building arts and sciences, the National Building Museum convenes the Industry Council as the forum for strategic, interdisciplinary leadership and as the platform for public education about the world we build.

Goals

Members of the Industry Council will participate in:

  • Promotion of public education about the build environment;
  • Discussion of industry data, trends, and issues;
  • Networking across building industry sectors;
  • Research and consultation on Museum programming; and
  • Access to thought leaders and notable authorities from government, academia, and the industry.

The 2010 annual meeting will be held on May 12th in Washington, D.C.; its theme will be "Designing for Disaster" ahead of a major exhibition to be presented in fall 2011.

Membership

The Industry Council draws its members from both the public and private sectors.

Private sector members include leading corporate, association and foundation donors who support the Museum’s Industry Partner program at the $15,000+ level each year.  Each organization nominates two senior representatives who share the Museum’s goals and are interested in opportunities for partnership.

Public sector representatives serve 24-month terms and are drawn from elected and appointed government officials whose work impacts the built environment.
