What? This summer will be the fourth year that we have offered our on-site summer camp program to area youngsters, and the third year that we have provided scholarships to children from underserved areas of Washington, D.C. In an effort to keep our educational programs accessible to these students, we want to provide summer camp scholarships for eight deserving campers this year. To achieve this goal, we need your help!

Why? The National Building Museum's Summer Camp program provides students entering grades 3 through 5 with a unique learning opportunity. Campers experience the built environment through the building arts as well as visual and performing arts curricula, and participate in design challenges, art projects, field trips, and more. Participants learn skills including critical thinking, teamwork, aesthetic appreciation and the design process. Each session ends with a special presentation for campers' families of the projects that students created during the program. Summer camp staff includes professional museum educators as well as guest artists and design professionals. Read about a 2009 camper's experience in his own words.

Who? Scholarship candidates will be identified by our partners at the United Planning Organization, a local non-profit organization that plans and implements social services for the DC metro area.

How? You can help us give eight students with financial need the learning experiences that the National Building Museum’s Summer Camp provides by making a tax-deductible contribution now. With tuition costing $750 per student for a two-week session, we need to raise $6,000 to provide scholarships for all eight students. Please help us reach our goal!

A gift of:

  • $750 provides a full two-week scholarship for a camper, including extended care;
  • $375 provides a camper's tuition for one week, including extended care;
  • $225 provides a child with three days of summer camp fun and learning;
  • $150 provides a camper's tuition for two days;
  • $100 provides extended care for a student’s entire two-week session;
  • $75 provides one day’s tuition for a deserving child; and
  • $50 provides one week of extended care for a camper.

Gifts of any amount can truly make a difference, and are greatly appreciated. Please help us expand our outreach efforts to include youngsters who would not otherwise be able to afford this program, and make a donation online now. You may also make a contribution by phone by calling 202.272.2448, ext. 3200 or mail a check, payable to the National Building Museum, to 401 F Street NW, Washington, DC 20001, ATTENTION: Summer Camp Fund.

Thank you in advance for your support!
