Annual Builders' Event

Architecture
“Communication with Others Room,” Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security, San Francisco, California
Richard Ross
Members of The Builders are invited to attend this year’s annual Builders' Event on Thursday, July 9 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Invited guests will enjoy a reception and panel discussion with photographers Richard Ross, Camilo José Vergara, and Philip Trager, moderated by National Building Museum curator Laura Schiavo. During the event, all three of the exhibitions in the Museum's summer photography series will be open for viewing: Architecture of Authority: Photographs by Philip Ross; Storefront Churches: Photographs by Camilo José Vergara, and Form and Movement: Photographs by Philip Trager.

Storefront
1855 3rd St., N. Richmond, California, 2004.
Camilo José Vergara
Architecture of Authority is the result of five years of work by renowned photographer Richard Ross. The exhibition attempts to capture the essence, and sometimes ironic beauty, of what Ross calls "asymmetrical architecture"—spaces that exert profound power over individuals. Learn more.

Camilo José Vergara has been chronicling America's poorest neighborhoods since 1977. Trained as a sociologist, he has continuously surveyed the variety of churches housed in buildings designed for other purposes and the conditions, beliefs, and practices that shape them. Storefront Churches features 75 prints that explore this urban phenomenon. Learn more.

Form
Michiyo & Dancers, 1988.
Philip Trager
Philip Trager is one of the foremost contemporary American photographers of architecture, the most enduring of the arts, and dance, one of the most ephemeral. Form and Movement features large-format black and white photographs selected from Philip Trager's 40-year career. Learn more.
