A Salute to The Associated General Contractors of America
Honor Award

On June 4, 2008, the National Building Museum presented the 22nd Honor Award to The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) and its nationwide network of 96 Chapters. AGC is the largest and oldest national construction trade association in the United States and received the Honor Award in recognition of the 90 years of leadership and vision it has brought to the construction industry.
The event marked the first time in the Museum's history that the Honor Award was presented to an association. Leaders from the construction, development, architecture, and engineering industries, as well as representatives from both state and federal government, gathered to celebrate this honor and reflect on AGC and its member companies' impact on the built environment. Nearly 600 guests attended the black-tie gala, which raised more than $1.2 million for the Museum's programming and exhibitions.

The Honor Award was held in the Museum's Great Hall and the award was accepted by AGC president Douglas E. Barnhart (CEO, Barnhart, Inc., San Diego, California) and AGC CEO Stephen E. Sandherr. Michael J. Glosserman, chair of the Museum's Board of Trustees, led the program and was joined by tribute speaker Norbert W. Young, Jr., FAIA, president of McGraw-Hill Construction. for their important contributions to our nation’s building heritage at an exclusive gala on June 4, 2008. The Honor Award was presented during a black-tie gala in the Museum’s historic Great Hall and was attended by members of the construction, banking, real estate, architecture, design, and engineering communities, as well as regional and national leaders in government and the arts. AGC and its Chapters are the 22nd recipient of the award. AGC President Douglas E. Barnhart (CEO/Chairman, Barnhart Inc., San Diego, California) and Stephen E. Sandherr, Chief Executive Officer of AGC, accepted the award. The program included a moving tribute from Norbert W, Young, president of McGraw-Hill Construction.
AGC and its Chapters were honored for their work building America’s quality of life and promoting construction excellence, including safety, through training, advocacy, and the dissemination of best practices to contractors nationwide. AGC and its Chapters have been effective advocates for the construction industry at the local, state, and federal levels, promoting investment, training, and general advancement of the field. GC’s commitment to work force and career development and the educational resources the association provides for all career levels in the construction industry.
