Architecture + Design Education Network

Established by the American Architectural Foundation and the Chicago Architecture Foundation in October 2005, the Architecture + Design Education Network is dedicated to fostering the growth and development of K–12 architecture and design education on a national level. The Network further strives to raise youth awareness about the built environment and advance the integration of the design process across the K–12 curriculum. As a member of the Network’s steering committee, the National Building Museum is assisting the Network’s launch of several initiatives in 2006 and beyond. Organizations and individuals interested in K–12 architecture and design education are invited to become a part of the A+DEN database by filling out a brief survey.

Washington Architectural Foundation

Washington Architectural Foundation's mission is architects serving the community through design education programs and pro bono design services. Their "Architecture in the Schools" (AIS) program brings architects to 30 classrooms in grades K-12 each year with activities that enhance the curriculum and teach to the learning standards. WAF also leads Teacher Workshops and neighborhood walking tours. Visit them at www.wafonline.org/programs/ais.html

Building Homes of our Own

A free, interactive teaching tool for middle and high school classrooms developed by the National Association of Home Builders. Challenge students with this innovative simulation that presents a macro view of the entire home building process, from site selection to final sale. Students collect information, solve problems, and make choices as they build a 3D home against a budget, then review credit applications and sell to the buyer of their choice. Go to www.HomesOfOurOwn.org to learn more and order a free copy.
