Festival of the Building Arts

Join building and arts professionals at the National Building Museum’s annual Festival of the Building Arts on Saturday, October 11, 2008 and take part in hands-on activities during this exciting, interactive, funfor-all-ages celebration of our built environment. Come, watch, and learn from the experts.
Throughout the day visitors of all ages can:
- Find out HOW to thatch a roof, build a brick wall, or finish dry wall
- LEARN what tools, old and new, different craftspeople use as art of their trades
- WATCH and WORK side by side with stone carvers, woodworkers, blacksmiths, gilders, glass designers
- LEARN from experts – timberwrights, plumbers, masons, roofers, carpenters, interior designers, landscape architects AND MORE!
A free, plastic hard hat will make youngsters part of the team and the action as they:
- CLIMB aboard construction equipment at the outdoor “petting zoo”
- PARTICIPATE in one of the nail driving contests scheduled during the course of the day
- Help CONSTRUCT a gigantic pipe sculpture
- CREATE an original stained glass design or BUILD a model building or green roof from recycled materials to take home
