February 24, 2010

Members of The Corinthians are cordially invited to a special tour of the U.S. Capitol and Capitol Visitor Center on Wednesday, February 24 at 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm. Three years ago, the museum’s very first "Behind the Scenes" tour offered Corinthian members the opportunity to visit the construction site of the National Capitol Visitor Center. Join us as we return to view that now completed space, and to tour one of the most significant architectural symbols of the United States.

The tour, led by Thomas Fontana, Director of Marketing and Communications at the Capitol Visitor Center, will begin after an optional lunch in the Visitor Center restaurant at 12:00 pm. Inside the Visitor Center, we will enjoy spectacular views of the Capitol Dome from underground in Emancipation Hall and go "behind the scenes" to view some of the adjacent Congressional spaces. The Capitol tour will include the Old Senate Chamber and Old Supreme Court Chamber and will highlight the architectural evolution of the Capitol building.

If attending please be aware of the following:

  • Cafeteria style lunch with introduction by the CEO for Visitor Services, Terrie Rouse.
  • Regarding attire, please wear comfortable shoes as we will be walking up and down several flights of stairs
  • Please leave large backpacks and handbags back at the office.
  • Bottled water and other fluids (perfume bottles, etc.) are not allowed in the Capitol.
  • You can bring cameras, but all electronic devices will be screened first.
  • Directions: Transportation and parking are not provided. The Visitor’s Center recommends using metro. The nearest stations are Union Station (Red Line) and Capitol (Blue/Yellow Line)
