The National Building Museum’s Fall 2011 Design Apprenticeship Program participants gathered each Saturday for seven weeks to focus on how modular building blocks are used in design and construction. Through a series of hands-on activities, participants learned the basics of design, explored various materials, became proficient with tools, and developed an eye for aesthetics. Working in teams alongside volunteer design professionals, participants designed and fabricated furniture that incorporated modular building blocks as a key design element.
Participants will present their work, design process, and final products.
Design Apprenticeship Program is supported by McGraw Hill Financial, and Prince Charitable Trusts. Additional support for outreach programs is provided by the The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation; Clark Charitable Foundation; The Max and Victoria Dreyfus Foundation, Inc.; The William Randolph Hearst Foundations; Sunrise Foundation; and The Tower Companies, among others.
