U.S. Green Building Council

“Buildings and communities will regenerate and sustain the health and vitality of all life within a generation”—
U.S. Green Building Council's vision

U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) 15‐year history of transforming the built environment through the promotion of green buildings is never finished. Education is a cornerstone of USGBC’s mission, and when implemented in concert with the tools that USGBC offers, such as its LEED® green building certification system, can accomplish many great things. The mission behind the National Building Museum’s Green Community exhibition aligns so well with USGBC’s vision, it was only fitting that USGBC become involved in the sponsorship of this important showcase. USGBC supports and recognizes the National Building Museum’s efforts to bring healthy and vibrant green communities to the greater Washington community.

The U.S. Green Building Council is a nonprofit membership organization whose vision is a sustainable built environment within a generation. Its membership includes corporations, builders, universities, government agencies, and other nonprofit organizations. Since USGBC’s founding in 1993, the Council has grown to more than 15,500 member companies and organizations, a comprehensive family of LEED® green building certification systems, an expansive educational offering, the industry’s popular Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, and a network of 78 local chapters, affiliates, and organizing groups.

Rick Fedrizzi, founding chairman of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in 1993, was appointed President & CEO in April 2004. Under his leadership, the Council has more than tripled its membership, broadened its influence and cemented its role as a leadership voice in the global sustainability movement.
