Recent designs for public spaces demonstrate that new spaces can be more than leftovers of neglected land. They can be generators of urban revitalization. OPEN: new designs for public space, an exhibition originated by the Van Alen Institute, will present innovative projects from around the world as it explores the role of public space in an age of heightened security and increased electronic interaction.
OPEN includes contemporary architecture, landscape, and urban design projects by renowned design leaders including Will Alsop, Peter Eisenman, Rafael Viñoly, Zaha Hadid, Walter Hood, and Norman Foster. More than 300 images, digital animations, and models illustrate a range of projects in a variety of settings: from memorials to urban plazas and parks, and from Washington, D.C., to Melbourne, Australia, to Johannesburg, South Africa.
