An altered photo of the Washington monument shows the importance of trees in our nation's capital.

Life Without Leaves is a photography contest designed to highlight the importance of trees in our community and around the landmarks in our nation's capital. The ongoing removal of nearly one million community trees from our cities and towns each year is becoming a national crisis. To address this issue, students from the Art Institute of Washington were challenged to take and retouch photos of area landmarks and tree-lined locations and depict them with and without trees.
Winners of the photography contest will have their work displayed in the second floor galleries from September 17, 2008 through November 2, 2008.
