Gift of Geraldine and Richard Wurts
Donated in 2011
This collection is comprised of 83 double-sided decorative wooden panels of various heights and widths to which hundreds of historically significant ornamental architectural elements are affixed. Stylistic periods from Art Deco to the Baroque to Rococo are represented, and many types of decorative components can be found on these panels from Greek anthemion to Vitruvian wave scrolls. The Monumental Construction & Moulding Company had to close after thirty years of service in the DC area due to economic downturn. The collection was purchased from a plaster molding company in Boston around 1982 for $30,000 and was the foundation and sources for many of Monumental Construction & Moulding Company’s strikingly beautiful pieces.
