Spotlight on Design

José Almiñana
, RLA, ASLA, LEED AP, is a principal at Andropogon Associates, a landscape architecture firm known both nationally and internationally for its sustainable development approach. Trained as both a landscape architect and architect, his collaborative work endeavors to achieve the highest possible performance with the least amount of resources. Since 1983 José has been instrumental in many of the firm’s complex site development projects, striving to create sensitive, ecological designs that respond directly to site conditions and incorporate innovative sustainable design technologies. At Andropogon, José and his colleagues pioneered ecologically responsible approaches—from landscape-integrated stormwater management systems to restoration of native plant communities and habitats. Many of these are now commonly accepted practices.

José is a LEEDTM Accredited Professional and an ASLA representative on the Steering Committee of the Sustainable Sites Initiative. José is also a visiting lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania School Of Design and at Philadelphia University, and served on the board of directors of the Delaware Valley Green Building Council in Philadelphia.
