Carter C. Hudgins
Director of Preservation, Drayton Hall
Carter C. Hudgins is the director of Preservation at Drayton Hall, in Charleston, South Carolina. Carter has worked in the fields of archaeology, history and preservation for more than ten years.Prior to his current position at Drayton Hall, Carter worked as a Senior Staff Archaeologist for the APVA Jamestown Rediscovery Project in Jamestown, Virginia.He has completed archaeological field work throughout Southeastern North America and the Caribbean and instructed undergraduate and graduate students in historical and archaeological research.
Hudgins received a B.A. from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, and a M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of London.He has lectured and published extensively on the history, archaeology and material culture of early America and post-medieval England with a particular focus on the 17th century.Carter’s current research and publications focus on the landscape and archaeology of Drayton Hall within the larger context of the 18th century Atlantic World.
