Brad Cownover


Brad Cownover, ASLA,
 is director of Scenic Conservation for the nonprofit Scenic America, whose mission is to safeguard America’s natural beauty and community character. Brad provides policy and advocacy leadership, as well as direct scenic conservation services, to communities and organizations across the country. He serves as Scenic America’s technical expert on matters related to landscape character, such as scenic byways, corridor management planning, visual assessment methodology, context sensitive transportation planning, scenic conservation planning, open space preservation, and design guidelines. While with Scenic America, Brad has developed and facilitated numerous workshops and symposia on scenic conservation and presented at conferences across the country.

Prior to his position with Scenic America, he served as the Chief Landscape Architect for the United States Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management, serving as the bureau’s lead on visual resource management and scenic byways. Brad currently resides in the District of Columbia with his wife and son.
