Founding The Vision Group in 1992, BJ Miller, FASID, CCIM has used the company as a platform for the delivery of design projects and for the research of environments in both health care and elder care settings. In her entrepreneurial role, Miller worked for a decade on urban redevelopment of adaptive reuse and new construction infill, in a real estate firm she founded in 2003.
A self-described "generalist" BJ's areas of expertise include design, real estate investment and gerontology which combine to create synergy around developing future models for aging environments. Today, her development and design work is focused primarily in the elder care space. As an advisory board member for Second50 Communities based in Charleston, SC she leads the site acquisition team for new developments. She is also the chief strategist for The Vision Group working with a range of senior providers including the Veteran’s Administration (VA) skilled nursing facilities and many non-profit retirement communities in developing master plans and strategy around their product offerings.
In 2008 Miller was the catalyst for developing a multi-disciplinary graduate program for the college of architecture and the college of nursing with a concentration in Health Design for the University of Tennessee College of Architecture and Design.
Her work with ASID has involved past state and national board positions, as well as being a national spokesperson for the organization. In June of 2012, Miller received her fellowship in the American Society of Interior Designers, the highest honor bestowed on a member of the society.
