Bill Saporito

Assistant Managing Editor, TIME

Bill

Bill Saporito is assistant managing editor of TIME, where he edits and writes stories on global business, the economy, personal finance and sports. A 27-year Time Inc. veteran, Saporito joined TIME in 1996 as a senior editor from Fortune.

Saporito directed TIME’s extensive coverage of the global financial crisis. He has written cover stories on AIG and General Motors, edited cover packages about the stock market, investing, the mortgage industry, the real estate bust, and financial industry bailouts. He has also overseen the production of two “Person of the Year” editions.

During his tenure at TIME, Saporito has also been heavily involved in the magazine and website’s sportswriting. He profiled Bode Miller for a cover in 2006 and has written profiles of Tiger Woods and Tony Stewart. Additionally, Saporito directed TIME’s coverage of major sporting events, including the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Previously, Saporito was a senior editor at Fortune magazine, where he was a member of the publication’s Board of Editors. He began his career at the New York Daily News.

Saporito received a B.A. from Bucknell University and an M.A. from Syracuse University. He and his wife, Laurie, live in Manhattan.
