The Quirks of the L'Enfant Plan

Panelists explore L’Enfant’s unrealized plans for Washington, D.C.

WHAT
Panelists explore the history of Pierre L’Enfant’s plan for Washington, D.C. and how the plan influences the look and feel of the city today. The panel examines some of L’Enfant’s unrealized concepts, such as the idea to have states adopt squares across the city. This program complements the exhibition Unbuilt Washington, which will be open for viewing before the lecture. This is one of the last chances to see the exhibition, which closes May 28. A book signing follows the lecture.

Panelists include:

  • Scott W. Berg, author of Grand Avenues: The Story of Pierre Charles L'Enfant, the French Visionary Who Designed Washington, D.C.
  • G. Martin Moeller, Jr., senior vice president and curator, National Building Museum (moderator)
  • Whayne Quin, partner, Holland and Knight
  • Jeff Speck, Speck & Associates, LLC

Continuing Education Credits: 1.5 LU HSW (AIA) / 1.5 CM (AICP) / 1.5 LA CES (ASLA)
