Inaugural Ball Tours: Media Advisory

Inaugural Ball Tours at the National Building Museum offer a walk through history

WHAT

The National Building Museum's Inaugural Ball Tours offer an insider's view of the tradition of inaugural balls and the Museum's role as a venue for these historic events. The National Building Museum has hosted inaugural balls since 1885, and will be the venue for President Obama's Commander in Chief ball in 2009. Learn how the Museum was originally designed to host grand receptions, discover the origins of the Great Hall's official presidential seal, the only one located outside of the White House, and more.

The Inaugural Ball Tours give an in-depth look at what past inaugural balls have been like, including photos of their decorations and examples of past dinner menus. Twelve presidents, from Grover Cleveland to George W. Bush, have held their inaugural balls at the National Building Museum's historic home, making the Museum the best place to explore the history of this important event.
