For the Greener Good: Sustainability Roundtable

WHO

A discussion with:
Dennis Dimick, Executive Editor, National Georgraphic Magazine
Anthony Faiola, Journalist, Washington Post
Robert Ivy, FAIA, Editor in Chief, Architecural Record
Susan Piedmont-Palladino, Curator, National Building Museum (moderator)

WHAT

Sustainable design and construction has received a great deal of attention in the past year. Climate change, new energy sources, and carbon tax are just a few of the focal points of the current green movement. The Sustainability Roundtable program panelists will discuss what climate change means for the future of the construction industry, the global economy, and human life on the planet.

On the heels of the historic inauguration of the 44th President of the United States, panelists will tackle timely questions including:

  • The new administration is planning an enormous stimulus package between $650 and $750 billion to help restart the U.S. economy. What advice would you give to this plan as it relates to the creation of a more sustainable world? What would be the top three priorities on your lists?
  • President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will create a White House Office of Urban policy to develop a strategy for metropolitan America and to ensure federal dollars targeted to urban areas are spent effectively. What would be your top priorities for this new office?
  • President Abraham Lincoln once said, “Public sentiment is everything. With public sentiment, nothing can fail; without it nothing can succeed." Does the public support new efforts to affect climate change?
