Festival of the Building Arts: Media Advisory


WHO/WHAT

Celebrate the past, envision the future at the annual Festival of the Building Arts at the National Building Museum. This year’s free, one-day festival takes place on Saturday, October 9, 2010. Work side by side with architects, builders, designers, artisans, and trades people as they demonstrate their skills.

  • PARTICIPATE in drywall finishing, plastering, roof thatching, woodworking, surveying, nail driving, and more
  • CHAT with plumbers, roofers, architects, landscape designers, conservationists, and other experts
  • LISTEN to the story Henry Builds a Cabin and then BUILD your own in the nearby Construction Zone
  • WATCH artisans at work in the Great Hall and on stage with special close up demonstrations
  • MAKE shaving cream art with FAMILY Magazine, the official media partner of the 2010 Festival of the Building Arts
  • VISIT the exhibition Designing Tomorrow: Worlds’ Fairs of the 1930s and then DESIGN a model building to create a City of the Future on the floor of the Museum’s Great Hall

Most appropriate for children ages 5 – 13; accompanied by an adult.

The Festival of the Building Arts is presented by The Associated General Contractors of America. Additional support is provided by the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities, an agency supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.

Saturday, October 9, 10:00 am – 4:30 pm
Free; $5 donation suggested. Individual registration is not required. To receive a badge worksheet in advance, Scout groups should rsvp at go.nbm.org/FOBA.
