2009 Festival of the Building Arts
WHAT
At the National Building Museum's annual Festival of the Building Arts the Museum presents the ABC's and D's of our built environment: Artisans and Architects, Builders, Contractors and Craftspeople, and Designers and Decorators. Visitors of all ages can join in the fun!
- ACTIVITIES for visitors of all ages: dry wall finishing, bricklaying, roof thatching, woodworking, surveying, nail driving, and more!
- BUILDING BASICS: Explore alternative construction techniques and materials, such as green roofs and straw bales. Watch a log cabin rise in the Great Hall.
- CONVERSATIONS with plumbers, roofers, architects, landscape designers, conservationists, and other experts.
- DEMONSTRATIONS by area artisans – glass designers, stone carvers, gilders, blacksmiths, and furniture makers – will be featured throughout the Festival and on stage, with a chance to see how they work in detail.
NEW THIS YEAR!
- Budding Builders are invited to listen to The Three Little Pigs and explore the characteristics of different building materials from the story—straw, wood, and brick—and then design a "Three Little Pigs" house of their own from recycled craft materials.
- Make shaving cream art with FAMILY Magazine, the official media partner of the 2009 Festival of the Building Arts.
The Festival of the Building Arts is presented by The Associated General Contractors of America.
