Bob the Builder will be live and on stage at this year’s Big Build, a Hands-on Family Festival of Tools, Trucks, and Building Arts (September 17, 2011).
National
Building Museum Online (NBM Online): What are you going to be doing at the Big
Build?
Bob the Builder™ (Bob): I’m so excited to see my friends in Washington D.C., and be part of the Big Build! I will be meeting all of my friends who visit the National Building Museum and singing and dancing live on stage. There will also be times for me to meet all of the aspiring builders and their families and take some photos.
NBM Online: At the Big Build, kids of all ages will learn how to finish drywall, lay brick, and thatch roofs. What’s your favorite building project?
Bob: Wow, that’s a hard question. I love all types of building—from putting up a house to fixing a garden wall. No job is too big or too small. My machine team and I fix it all.
NBM Online: Who taught you how to build and why did you decide to become a builder?
Bob: My father, Robert, taught me a lot about how to be a builder. My dad is a terrific builder, and he always taught me that hard work, a positive attitude, and teamwork will help get any job done. I’ve been building ever since I can remember. Even when I was really little, I used to build things like play bridges, roads, houses, and buildings.
NBM Online: What’s your favorite thing about being a builder?
Bob: With every new project, there is a new challenge. I love tackling new problems, and working together with others to get the job done.
NBM Online: Why do you think kids should learn how to build different things?
Bob: It’s fun and interesting to learn how to build different things. Each new project is a new challenge to work on, and once kids learn all of the nuts and bolts of building, they can build anything. Kids will feel proud of all the different things that they learn to build.
NBM Online: What should kids know about building safety?
Bob: Being safe while building is key to every project. It’s important to remember and follow every step from wearing your safety gear like goggles and gloves to paying attention to your surroundings. Also, listen carefully to parents and adults who are giving instructions about your project. Kids should never rush and run around a building area because it’s usually very busy with many things going on at the same time. With everyone taking care to be safe, everyone can enjoy the project!
NBM Online: What is the biggest challenge you have faced while building?
Bob: No problem is too big if you have the right Can-Do attitude. The Can-Do Crew and I build, dig, and haul until the job is complete. Whether it’s building a bridge, paving a road, or fixing a window, there’s nothing we can’t do, and we enjoy every project that we tackle.
NBM Online: What is your favorite tool or machine?
Bob: I like all machines and tools. Each one has a unique job to do, and a special part to play in getting a job done.
NBM Online: Who do you enjoy building with the most?
Bob: I can’t possibly choose! All my friends and members of my Machine Team are my favorites because they are all great at different things. I need each and every one of them!
NBM Online: What is the most important thing to remember when you are building?
Bob: With each project The Fun Is In Getting It Done and the emphasis is on teamwork, cooperation, and a Can-Do attitude. Because it’s true! With teamwork and a positive attitude, everything is possible. Can we build it? Yes we can!
