2012 Honor Award Gala Recap

On March 15, the National Building Museum presented its 26th Honor Award to the Urban Land Institute (ULI) in celebration of the research organization’s past and future. For 75 years, ULI has served as the premier forum for leaders in urban planning, land use, and real estate development worldwide, providing resources to, educating, and equipping its nearly 30,000 members who shape our built environment on a daily basis. As it embarks on its next 75 years with the “What’s Next?” initiative, ULI will lead the critical discussion of the serious challenges and exciting opportunities before us in a rapidly urbanizing world.

Industry leaders in construction, development, architecture, and engineering, as well as leaders from state and federal government joined ULI at the Museum to celebrate presentation of the award. More than 600 guests attended the gala, which raised critical funds for the Museum’s acclaimed exhibitions and education programs.

Steve Case, chairman and CEO of Revolution, LLC and co-founder of America Online, kicked off the evening with a keynote speech about the future of technology in the real estate field. The event also included a tribute speech via video from President William J. Clinton, who praised ULI for its guidance and wisdom in city planning and land use issues around the world.

The Museum hosted the black-tie gala in its historic Great Hall, and Peter S. Rummell, chairman of the board of directors of ULI, and Patrick L. Phillips, chief executive officer of ULI, accepted the award. Michael J. Glosserman, chair of the Museum’s board of trustees, and Chase W. Rynd, president and executive director, presented the award.

The National Building Museum presents its Honor Award annually to leaders who have shaped our heritage, defined our culture, developed our communities, and crafted our built environment. Past recipients include Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Lady Bird Johnson, DuPont, Clark Construction Group, LLC, and The Associated General Contractors of America.
