Investigating Where We Live Team Leaders

Support one of the Museum’s award-winning youth programs, which offers 12-16 year old youth hands-on opportunities to learn about the design process. Team Leaders work directly with students as they develop skills in digital photography, creative writing, and exhibition design. In addition to their classroom responsibilities, which include project management and lesson facilitation, Team Leaders have the opportunity to participate in program planning and evaluation. The IWWL Team Leader(s) report directly to the Outreach Programs Coordinator while working with the Associate Outreach Programs Coordinator, and IWWL interns.

General Qualifications and Requirements: Available every Monday (time varies), Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (8 am-3 pm) for 7 weeks (June 16 - August 4). This includes training, the IWWL program, and evaluation.  Enthusiasm for working in an urban environment with a diverse group of students, ages 12-16. Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills. Direct experience working with teen audience a plus. Knowledge of digital photography, creative writing, exhibition design, the design process, the built environment and/or museum education. Experience with MS Office applications (Word and Excel), knowledge of databases and office equipment. Experience with design software such as Photoshop and InDesign a plus.

This is a part-time, temporary, position lasting from June 16 - August 4, 2010.

Summer Camp Specialists

The National Building Museum seeks museum educators, teaching artists and social studies teachers to serve as Summer Camp Specialists for children age eight to eleven, July 26– August 20, 2010. This temporary, part-time position will work directly with children in leading morning classes in creative writing, visual art, design education, and/or world cultures. Paid Orientation will occur on July 6, 2010. Camp work hours: 1-3 morning hours per day, Monday-Friday, schedule to be determined by Family Programs Coordinator.  Candidates should be extremely reliable; able to commit to camp duration; possess a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree is strongly preferred) and 2-3 years of teaching experience; have excellent presentation and interpersonal skills; and experience in an informal learning environment. Successful applicants will complete a criminal background check prior to camp. Summer Camp Group Leaders

The National Building Museum seeks energetic, creative individuals to serve as Summer Camp Group Leaders for full-day summer camp for children ages eight to eleven, July 12-August 20, 2010.  This temporary, full-time position will work directly with children leading, creating, and co-teaching camp activities both on-site and on local field trips.  Paid mandatory training will occur between July 6-9, 2010.  Camp work hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-3:00PM or 5:30 PM, end times rotating.  Candidates should be extremely reliable; able to commit to camp duration; possess a bachelor’s degree or currently be working towards one; have excellent presentation and interpersonal skills; and experience in a camp or museum education setting.  Successful applicants will complete a criminal background check, First Aid and CPR training prior to camp and paid for by the Museum.  Send a cover letter, resume, and list of three references to recruitment@nbm.org, Attn: HR EDU-CAMP. Marketing and Communications Department

Online Marketing and Communications Manager

The position of the Online Marketing and Communications Manager at the National Building Museum is a new role. The Museum is focused on using online technology to fulfill its mission of educating the public about the building arts and sciences. The Manager will be responsible for increasing the profile, outreach, and exposure of the Museum through multimedia and social media; virtual marketing, advertising, and promotion; online publications, blogs, and newsletters; and interactive collaborations with partners. The Manager will be responsible for developing and executing the Museum’s online strategic plan and working across departments to produce and publish content for the web. 

The successful candidate will be a skilled manager with the ability to work both independently on detail-driven tasks as well as work cross-functionally to accomplish major long-range initiatives. The manager will also possess the necessary skills to collaborate effectively with vendors, sponsors, the news-media, and the general public. Strong written, verbal, and project management skills are required. 

Applicant resumes should reflect most or all of the following: a minimum of 4 years of professional experience; website, multimedia, and social media production; online editorial and publications management; email communications and constituent marketing;  knowledge of database and content management systems; web analytics experience, and basic graphic design skills. Expertise with Microsoft Office, HTML coding, and some CRM/CMS software is required. Adobe Photoshop and InDesign skills are strongly preferred. Applicants should possess a relevant bachelor’s degree.

The Museum seeks to fill multiple positions for Visitor Services Representatives to perform overall Visitor Services duties which include the daily monitoring and care of the Museum's exhibitions and galleries and interacting with the public to ensure that the visitor experience at the Museum is productive, informative and enjoyable. You will be asked to work in a variety of locations including the exhibition galleries, the Information Desk and the Reception Desk. The Visitor Services Representatives are the primary communication channel between the Museum, its members, and the general public. A background, or demonstrated interest, in a Museum environment, the building arts or museum studies is desired. Applicants should be reliable, flexible and personable; posses strong communication and interpersonal skills; exhibit professional manner and dress at all times; have reliable transportation; be responsible and trustworthy; able to work as a team player; uphold the mission of the Museum; abide by the stated rules, regulations and procedures of the Museum.
